Food supply distribution on the occasion of Ramadan

Lundi 31 août 2009

In the frame of the humanitarian actions carried out on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, on a yearly basis, distributes food baskets to the deprived.

The “Ramadan” humanitarian action is a strong testimony of Foundation’s continuous close care of the deprived, translating generous acts of all Moroccans, which demonstrate their attachment to their religious, cultural and historical values.

The Ramadan action is meant to help deprived people, namely widows, old people and people with special needs.
Such action annually benefits about 2.34 million people within 467.000 households across 71 provinces partitioned as follows:

  • 407.883 households in rural areas (more than 2 million beneficiaries)
  • 59.177 households in urban areas (about 300.000 beneficiaries)

Such households receive one basket, for each, full of 10 kilos of flour, 2 sugar loaves, 5 liters of salad oil, 250 grams of tea, at a unity value estimated at 130 MAD per basket.

The total food supply distributed has reached 4670 tons of flour, 1868 tons of sugar, 116.75 tons of tea, and 467.000 5-liter cans of oil.

The global cost of the operation, every year, reaches about 60 million MAD, partitioned as follows:

  • The General Directorate of Local Authorities: 30 million MAD
  • The Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs: 12.5 million MAD
  • Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity: 17.5 million MAD
