The Foundation Mohammed V for Solidarity is continuing its proximity-based medical outreach initiatives and will conduct a large-scale medical and surgical operation from December 5 to 7 for the benefit of the population in Es-Smara Province. This initiative aims to address unmet surgical and specialized care needs. The program brings together substantial logistical resources, two operational sites, and a broad coalition of institutional and civil society partners.

The city of Es-Smara will host this new medical and surgical campaign, designed specifically for the residents of the province. This solidarity-driven initiative seeks to ensure rapid access to surgical procedures and prioritize specialized consultations for vulnerable populations throughout the area.

The multidisciplinary aspect of the program will encompass various specialties, including pediatrics, gynecology, cardiology, ophthalmology, and dental care. Surgical teams will also perform procedures in general surgery, pediatric surgery, and cataract surgery.

Through this operation, the Foundation aims to carry out over 100 surgical procedures and provide multidisciplinary consultations to an estimated 4,500 beneficiaries.

The deployment will be organized across two sites. The first, located within the Es-Smara Provincial Hospital, will host scheduled general and pediatric surgeries. The second site, set up in the hospital’s outdoor courtyard, will integrate a comprehensive multidisciplinary system for consultations, screening, and specialized care, including a mobile surgical unit dedicated to cataract surgery. This configuration is designed to ensure a seamless flow between reception, clinical examination, therapeutic orientation, and medical care.

The campaign will rely on extensive logistical, technical, and human resources. The Foundation’s mobile medical units—covering ophthalmology, dental care, laboratory testing, ultrasound, and pharmacy—will enhance diagnostic and specialized consultation capacities. The surgical unit from the Moroccan Medical Association for Solidarity (AMMS) will bolster local operating capabilities, particularly for cataract procedures. A medical team of 46 physicians—including surgeons, specialists, and general practitioners—will be deployed throughout the program. Paramedical staff will assist with the preparation and follow-up of beneficiaries, in coordination with the Foundation’s medical teams and social workers.

This operation is carried out with the support of local authorities, the Provincial Delegation of Health and Social Protection in Es-Smara, the Agadir University Hospital Centre, AMMS, and the Higher Institute of Nursing and Health Technology Professions in Laayoune.

This new solidarity initiative reinforces the Foundation’s ongoing efforts to expand access to specialized healthcare by providing direct support to local populations and strengthening initiatives that lead to tangible improvements in their living conditions.
