In line with its ongoing medical and humanitarian missions to support vulnerable populations, the Foundation Mohammed V for Solidarity is organizing a major cataract surgery campaign from April 23 to 25, 2026. This initiative will benefit residents across several rural communes in the Province of Zagora.

This operation reflects the Foundation’s steadfast commitment to improving healthcare access and bringing medical services closer to populations in remote areas with limited medical coverage. The primary objective is to provide comprehensive surgical care for cataract patients in the Zagora province, specifically targeting the commune of Tamegroute and its surrounding areas.

Through this latest intervention, the Foundation continues to strengthen its community-based presence in the region. This follows an initial campaign in January 2025, which provided cataract surgeries to 105 beneficiaries from the communes of Tinfou Al Berrania, Fezouata, and Taghbalt, demonstrating the continuity and tangible impact of the Foundation’s work.

This solidarity operation aims to perform 140 cataract surgeries, enabling beneficiaries to regain their sight and significantly improve their quality of life. The patients were identified during a preliminary screening and diagnostic phase conducted by the Foundation’s medical teams on April 17 and 18. During this stage, 420 ophthalmological consultations and check-ups were carried out to assess the patients' general health and confirm surgical indications.

The campaign is being held at the ‘’Pottery village of Tamegroute’’, located 21.3 km from the city of Zagora. An integrated medical site has been specially designed to meet the highest safety and health quality standards, ensuring a seamless pre- and post-operative care pathway. The deployment includes three of the Foundation's mobile medical units—an ophthalmology consultation unit, a biology lab, and a mobile pharmacy—alongside two mobile cataract surgery units provided by the Association Marocaine Médicale de Solidarité (AMMS), as well as dedicated reception and recovery areas.

To ensure the quality of care and patient support, the Foundation has mobilized a multidisciplinary team of 45 professionals. This team includes the Foundation’s management staff, doctors, and social workers—responsible for oversight and coordination—as well as ophthalmic surgeons, nurses, technicians, and paramedical staff tasked with performing the surgeries and monitoring patient progress. Volunteers are also on-site to assist with reception, guidance, and beneficiary support.

The implementation of this campaign relies on coordination between the Foundation Mohammed V for Solidarity, local authorities, the AMMS, and the Provincial Delegation of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.

As a reminder, the 2026 medical campaign program was launched in March in Oued Amlil (Taza Province), where 2,575 people, including 1,116 women, received medical care. That operation included 128 cataract surgeries and a total of 5,468 specialized medical acts and treatments.
