A new impetus for work on disabilities
The Mohammed VI National Center for the Disabled (CNMH) was founded at His Majesty's behest as a tool for scaling up the Foundation's work on disabilities. Launched in 2006, it provided a tangible response to questions relating to care available to the disabled, and to the needs of families and stakeholders in the area.
As a care and service facility, the CNMH aims to improve disabled children and adults' access to education, rehabilitation, healthcare, customized sports activities and professional qualifications. The CNMH has 5 regional community components: Salé (2006), Safi (2008), Marrakech (2011), Oujda (2012) and Fez (2013). A new component is under construction in Casablanca.
Delivering customized integrated care
Equipped with a large facilities and specialized technical and human resources, the CNMH is a multifunctional care and support complex. It is endowed with six service centers: medical-social, socio-educational, sports, a social center, vocational training and an independent autistic care unit.
These multidisciplinary services are available to people with various types of disabilities: cerebral palsy, physical and motor disability, sensory disability, mental retardation (including Down syndrome), autism and related disorders. It is being replicated in other cities in order to ensure the accessibility of these services to as many people as possible.
Supporting families and organizations working on disability issues
As a national reference center, the CNMH also serves as a platform for training support for civil society organizations. CSO managers are provided with the skills-building and technical support needed to protect and respect the rights of these vulnerable individuals. Similarly, the CNMH plays a coordinating role in the development and exchange of expertise with national and international specialized institutions.
