The Foundation for Solidarity Launches cataract surgery campaign backed by the Connected Mobile Medical Units – Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity Program.

A cataract surgery campaign to benefit of the populations of douars under of the provinces of Sefrou and Boulemane will be held between March 1 to 3, 2024. This campaign is a continuation of the Connected Mobile Medical Units program, Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity (UMMC – FMVS), a part of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity.

Fully operational since January 30, 2024, the UMMC – FMVS digital healthcare program, the objective of which is to improve the accessibility and availability of quality health care in rural and remote areas, is delivering its first practical benefits in terms of complementary interventions. Launched by the Foundation as a complement to the current care offer of the UMMC – FMVS, this campaign is intended to broaden the access of rural populations to specialized care based on identified needs for surgical services.

The medical activity of the UMMC – FMVS, in particular ophthalmological tele-expertise, has highlighted cases of patients suffering from cataracts who require surgical intervention. Among the cases detected by the UMMC – FMVS medical teams located in the mountainous areas of the provinces of Sefrou and Boulemane, 120 patients were diagnosed and were deemed eligible for surgery.

The Foundation has set up its intervention system in the three rural localities of Tachot Imlal (rural commune of Ighezrane located 59 kilometers from Sefrou), Tassa (rural commune of Al Orjane located 162 kilometers from Boulemane) and Ait Khabach (rural commune of Guigou located 25 kilometers from Boulemane), on the sites of the UMMC – FMVS.

Logistically, four mobile units (two ophthalmic surgery platforms, radiology and biology) have been mobilized, and recovery areas specially designed to guarantee the smooth-running of surgical activity and post-operative checks.
This campaign will be carried out simultaneously on two sites (March 1 and 2 in Tachot Imlal and Tassa – March 2 and 3 in Ait Khabach and Tassa), will be organized in partnership with local authorities, regional management and provincial delegations of health as well as the partner association AMMS (Association Marocaine Médicale de Solidarité) which provides its mobile surgery units as well as a staff of ophthalmic surgeons. A total medical staff of 30 workers including specialist doctors, general practitioners and paramedical staff will take part in this solidarity operation, in addition to medical executives and social workers from the Foundation.
