Promoting care for and integration of people with disabilities

Disabilities have always been at the core of the Foundation's work. From its inception, the Foundation has endeavored to implement integrated projects with a view to promoting equal opportunities in access to social services and socio-professional integration.

A global and integrated care approach

The Foundation has consistently acted to mobilize and implement all necessary means to promote the autonomy and inclusion of people with disabilities. First, it focused on providing support to actors, institutions and associations working in the field. It did so by offering them logistical and financial assistance for the effective implementation of their projects.

In 2001, the Foundation initiated a large-scale renovation and equipment program for various facilities for the disabled. The Ibn Baytar Center for the Rehabilitation of Children with Motor Disabilities (Khemisset) and the Hay Mohammadi and Nour Centers for the Care of the Physically Disabled (Casablanca) were the first institutions to receive support from the Foundation. Similarly, training centers dedicated to the blind were launched in partnership with the Alaouite Organization for the Protection of the Blind.

Upholding the foundation’s commitment

Each year, a number of associations working in favor of the disabled benefit from the Foundation's solidarity. Most importantly, the Foundation has sought to adopt a comprehensive approach, which aims to achieve greater social and professional integration for people with disabilities. Accordingly, it has focused on training and qualification. The Foundation has also launched a national program for the development of mixed-gender training centers, in partnership with the Vocational Training and Labor Promotion Office.

The Foundation has also set up facilities offering socio-educational and medical services. This approach led to the establishment of the Mohammed VI National Center for the Disabled (CNMH), which opened in 2006. Setting a new standard in Africa, this social welfare institution operates six sections. Since 2010, it has also been offering vocational training courses in occupations suited to people with mental disabilities.

To enable people with disabilities to be as independent as possible, the Foundation set up, in 2015, a work-based integration and support center within the CNMH. This pilot experience offers mentally impaired young people trained at the CNMH a suitable working environment that is open on to its surroundings. Young people are thus hired, supervised by specialized educators and participate actively in social life.
